China Releases 15th Five-Year Plan for New Battery Industry

On September 28, 2026, seven Chinese ministries including the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology jointly issued the "15th Five-Year Plan for the Development of the New Battery Industry." The plan sets a target for 2030: major breakthroughs in new battery systems and initial large-scale application of all-solid-state batteries. It also specifies that long-life lithium batteries should achieve 15,000 cycles and defect rates at top enterprises should reach the PPB (parts per billion) level.
