China voted against a U.S.-drafted UN Security Council resolution to extend the mandate of the Iran Sanctions Committee's Panel of Experts, which failed to pass. China's UN representative Fu Cong argued that Resolution 2231 endorsing the JCPOA expired in October 2025 and the Council has ended its consideration of the Iran nuclear issue, making any attempt to reinstate sanctions divisive and harmful. The resolution received 11 votes in favor, with Russia and China voting against and two abstentions.
