China’s new energy vehicles top 60% of monthly sales for first time

In July 2026, new energy vehicles (NEVs) accounted for more than 60% of monthly new car sales in China, a first, the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) reported. Cumulative NEV share also exceeded 50% for the first time on a year-to-date basis. Monthly auto exports stayed above one million units for a second consecutive month, with NEVs making up over half of those exports.
