At a regular press conference on September 23, the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office responded to Taiwan leader Lai Ching-te's recent statements about enhancing Taiwan's defense capabilities, including a pledge to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP by 2030. Spokesperson Zhu Fenglian reiterated that there is only one China and that Taiwan is part of China, calling Lai's administration the 'chief culprit' undermining cross-strait peace and stability.
