At a regular press briefing on September 14, 2026, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun responded to reports that Sam Altman and Elon Musk recently called for a 'slowdown' in AI development. Guo stated that AI development concerns the common well-being of all humanity and that all parties should jointly promote AI that is open, inclusive, beneficial, and aligned with good. He added that spreading various threat narratives, engaging in confrontation and malicious competition would only disrupt the global AI governance process and serve no one's interests.
