Iran deputy FM: no ship can pass Strait of Hormuz without coordination

A Xinhua dispatch from Tehran reports that Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on Aug. 29 that the Strait of Hormuz is completely closed and that any vessel passing through does so only with Iran's coordination and permission. Citing Iran's state broadcaster IRIB, the report quotes him rejecting US statements about ships transiting the strait as 'completely untrue.' It adds that Iran has reached an understanding with Oman on passage arrangements, but the strait will not reopen until the US fulfills its commitments.
